In a new social solidarity campaign, Swatch created the “ursinhos” watch. The revenue obtained from its sale was donated to the “Gil Foundation” which used the money to build a temporary post-hospital internment support center inaugurated on the 11th of July of 2006. Its main goal was to give all kinds of assistance (medical, psychological, educational) to children from 0 to 12 years old who need help to get back to their normal lives after staying in the hospital for a long time. The chosen building is a rundown small palace from 1942, located in a complex called “Parque da Saúde” (Júlio de Matos Hospital), right in the center of Lisbon.
The proposed plan for the post-hospital internment support center aimed to maintain the original architectural layout of the building, while the interior had to be redesigned to meet the requirements of the new program. The architects and interior designers worked collaboratively to create an interior space organized around an inner courtyard that extends to the corridor. Gonaçlo Silva architects’ studio carefully planned the design elements to ensure the natural light generously flooded all circulation areas.
The architectural work was meticulously executed to enhance the building’s original design, while the interior designers’ creativity in the interior project resulted in a more pleasant environment, very different from that of a typical hospital. This redesign demonstrates the seamless integration of architects’ planning and interior design, creating a beautiful and functional space.
The build planning of the post-hospital internment support center is an exceptional example of how architecture and interior design can come together to produce an environment that prioritizes patient comfort and well-being.
