The Kindergarten in Atalaia is an exemplary work of architecture that is associated with one of the most emblematic monuments of Montijo, the 16th century Our Lady of Atalaia Church/ Sanctuary. Its very unique surroundings required the building to breathe simplicity of forms so that the Church could maintain its prominent role as the centerpiece of the area.
The architects carefully designed the main facade of the Kindergarten with a single rectangular shape, where only the main entrance stands out, a door of stone masonry of historical value. The building was also deliberately kept detached from the Church’s South facade to create a separated area marked by the presence of the bell tower. This approach created a balance between the architectural purity of the Church’s facade and the proposed construction of a sober facade with vertical openings.
The architects’ planning and designers’ skills are evident in the harmonious relationship between the Church and the Kindergarten. The building’s interior project was also executed with the same level of attention and detail. The result is a beautiful interior design that offers a stimulating and safe learning environment for children.
This project exemplifies the quality of architectural work that is possible when architects and interior designers work together with a common goal in mind. The combination of the architectural work and the interior design resulted in a building that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. The Kindergarten in Atalaia is a testament to the power of architecture to enhance the built environment and positively impact people’s lives.
