Aimed at creating a unique and sustainable building that considered both its program and structural organization.
Location: Alcanena, Portugal

The team's commitment to architectural sustainability was reflected in the control of natural light within the building, especially in the exhibition areas. The design decision to allow natural light only from the North not only minimized the use of artificial light but also created a balance between light and shade, enhancing the visitors' experience.

The building design project, for the Leather Tanning Museum at Alcanena, Portugal, undertaken by the architect’s studio, Gonçalo Silva Arquitetos, aimed at creating a unique and sustainable building that considered both its program and structural organization.

The team’s commitment to architectural sustainability was reflected in the control of natural light within the building, especially in the exhibition areas. The design decision to allow natural light only from the North not only minimized the use of artificial light but also created a balance between light and shade, enhancing the visitors’ experience.

The architects and interior designers envisioned a building with a distinct architectural structure and concept. The building was designed as a “skin” that envelops the whole structure, creating a balanced image of its construction. This design principle allowed for the clear distinction between various areas within the museum while maintaining a harmonious flow between them. The use of loose and spontaneous forms was balanced with rigid ones, creating an effect similar to that of an item of leather.

The building design was based on careful planning and attention to detail. The team of architects and interior designers worked closely to develop the concept and translate it into detailed plan drawings of the building. This resulted in a building with a clear and organized layout that meets the needs of its users while providing an exceptional visitor experience.

The team’s expertise in both architecture and interior design allowed the development of a unique building that is functional and practical while also providing a memorable experience for its visitors.

The luxury architect’s studio is specialized in retail stores and building architecture, focused on creating suitable solutions for each customer’s needs and requirements.
